    Sweat More During Peacetime And Bleed Less During War – Major General Umar Musa

    The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 81 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Umar Thama Musa has urged troops of 81 Division NA to sweat more during peacetime and bleed less during the war as 9 Brigade NA emerged the overall champion at the closing ceremony of the 81 Division Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (WOs and SNCOs) Competition 2022.

    The GOC 81 who was represented by the Chief of Staff Headquarters 81 Division Brigadier General Ismail Oloyede said the essence of the WOs and SNCO’s competition was to enhance their fighting efficiency and performance in the field to prepare the troops for current security challenges facing the nation.

    General Musa said he was impressed with the military bearing, stamina, and endurance exhibited by the participants during the competition.

    According to the GOC, training is the bedrock of any fighting force. Hence, the skills gathered during the competition would improve leadership traits, promote esprit de corps, and boost morale.

    The WOs and SNCOs Competition is one of the series of competitions lined up for the year 2022, for brigades under the 81 Division area of responsibility. The competing brigades included the 9 Brigade, the 35 Artillery Brigade, the 81 Division Garrison, and the 45 Engineer Brigade.

    The Competition featured weapon handling, combat swimming, map reading, and navigation exercises. Others are physical fitness exercises and obstacle crossing.

    The Chief Umpire of the Competition, Colonel Okezim Omeni, while presenting the final result stated that the 9 Brigade emerged the overall winner of the competition with 340 points, the 35 Artillery Brigade came second with 320 points, the 81 Division Garrison came third with 260 points, while the 45 Engineer Brigade came last with 200 points. Trophies were also presented to Sergeant Kingsley Agbaje of the 35 Artillery Brigade as the best Getaway Man and Sergeant Gloria Uzoefuna as the best firer.

    Present at the occasion was the Commander of the 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Isang Akpaumontia, Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Isa Abdullahi, Commander Nigerian Army Tailoring Factory Yaba Brigade, General Victor Beryo, and the Division Training Officer, Brigadier General Shuaibu Nuhu. Others are the Principal Staff Officers, heads of other security agencies, participants, and Guests.
