Amidst prevailing societal misconceptions, the inspiring journey of SP Alao Matthew shines as a beacon of hope, dispelling the notion that the children of police officers cannot attain greatness. His narrative is a testament to resilience, sacrifice, and the profound impact of nurturing a family amidst the challenges of policing in Nigeria.

SP Alao Matthew, a dedicated police officer, commenced his illustrious journey in the Nigeria Police Force on January 1, 1991. Now on the verge of retirement after 35 years of service, he reflects on a path marked by both triumph and tragedy. Despite enduring the loss of his beloved wife, SP Abosede Alao, also a police officer, in May 2021, SP Alao persevered, continuing to serve his nation with unwavering commitment.

Currently serving as the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) at Onipanu Police Station, Ogun State Command, SP Alao’s proximity to his family home in Sango-Ota allows him to balance his duties with familial responsibilities. His daughters—Ayomide Victoria Alao, Oyindamola Peace Alao, and Eniola Beatrice Adedokun (whom he adopted)—recently achieved significant academic milestones by being called to the Bar on March 5th, 6th, and 7th, 2024, respectively.

SP Alao attributes his daughters’ success not only to their individual choices but also to the guidance and mentoring provided by their late mother. Reflecting on their achievements, he emphasizes the importance of education and nurturing talents while acknowledging the divine guidance shaping their paths.

Despite the challenges encountered, discussions in the Alao household remain open and free-flowing, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing societal issues. Ayomide, the eldest daughter, is actively involved in an NGO dedicated to assisting the disabled, showcasing the family’s dedication to service beyond the call of duty.

As SP Alao Matthew looks towards the future, he finds solace in prayer, entrusting his daughters’ endeavors to the divine. The youngest member of the family, currently serving in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos State, is poised to follow her sisters’ footsteps by enrolling in law school next year.

The Nigeria Police Force celebrates SP Alao’s family’s achievements, recognizing his story as a testament to the transformative power of service, family, and unwavering faith in the face of adversity. ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, urges all officers to emulate SP Alao’s resilience and dedication to family and moral values, setting a standard for raising children who bring pride to their parents and nation.
