In a tragic turn of events, military personnel on a peace mission to Okuoma community in Bomadi Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State were ambushed and killed by community youths on Thursday, March 14, 2024. The incident occurred in response to a distress call following a communal crisis between Okuoma and Okoloba communities in Delta State.
The 181 Amphibious Battalion, stationed in Bomadi LGA, faced a dire situation when surrounded by hostile youths. The reinforcement team, led by the Commanding officer, also fell victim to the attack, resulting in the loss of the Commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 Soldiers.
In response to this appalling act, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has ordered an immediate investigation and the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous crime. The incident has been duly reported to the Delta State Government for further action.
Despite this setback, the military reassures its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security across the nation.
