Service of Songs Held For Late Mrs. Florence Ifeyinwa Ogbuka At Archbishop Vining Memorial Church

A service of songs was held on November 5, 2023, at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, GRA Ikeja, to honor the life and legacy of the late Mrs. Florence Ifeyinwa Ogbuka, a dedicated member of the Daughters of Light Society. The event, officiated by Rt. Rev. Dr. James Odedeji, was a heartfelt tribute to a woman whose life was marked by selflessness, compassion, and a deep commitment to family, education, and community service.

Florence Ifeyinwa Ogbuka was born on November 25, 1956, in Zaria, Kaduna, to Mr. and Mrs. Hyacinth Okonkwo. The eldest of nine children, Florence’s early years were spent in Zaria, where her father worked as a treasury manager for the Post and Telecommunications Service. Following the Nigerian Civil War, the family relocated, eventually settling in Nsukka, where Florence completed her secondary education at Queen of the Rosary Secondary School, Nsukka.

Florence’s educational journey continued at the Holy Rosary Teachers’ College, Enugu, where she met Emmanuel C. Ogbuka in 1978. The couple’s love story blossomed, culminating in a traditional marriage in 1979, followed by a church wedding in 1981. Together, they raised four children: Ifeanyi, Emeka (Francis), Dubem, and Belu.

Florence’s dedication to education was evident throughout her career. After joining the Lagos State teaching service in 1982, she taught in various primary schools in the Apapa area. She later earned an NCE Diploma from the University of Lagos in 1990, further strengthening her contribution to the development of young minds. Florence retired from teaching in 1995, after which she ventured into entrepreneurship, remaining active in business until 2018.

In a tribute to his late wife, Ichie Emmanuel Ogbuka expressed the deep sorrow of her passing, particularly as it came so unexpectedly. He reflected on their shared dreams and the plans they had made for her 68th birthday in November 2024, noting that Florence had always been a selfless caregiver, ensuring that her family was well cared for and her children received a good education. He took solace in the knowledge that Florence had lived a life marked by virtue, humility, and an unwavering commitment to others.

Their son, Ifeanyi Ogbuka Esq., also shared a moving tribute, highlighting his mother’s selflessness and the deep love she had for her family. He recalled how, even in times of illness, Florence was more concerned with the well-being of her loved ones, demonstrating the profound impact she had on everyone around her. His words spoke of the pain of losing her, but also of gratitude for the values she instilled in her children, particularly the importance of family unity, spirituality, and prayer.

Francis Nnaemeka Ogbuka, another of Florence’s sons, fondly remembered her as an unyielding source of support and strength. He recounted how Florence, in her 60s, cared for her grandchild without neglecting her other responsibilities. He spoke of the deep sense of loss the family feels, but also of the joy Florence brought into their lives through her selflessness and unwavering love.

Florence’s youngest child, Beluchukwu Ogbuka, shared the bittersweet memories of his mother’s last days, recalling her comforting words of gratitude for the care she received from her children. He reflected on the pain of her passing, but found solace in the love and unity that her death had brought to the family. He described her departure as a “beautiful death,” emphasizing the lasting impact of her life and the love that continues to resonate within the family.

The service of songs was a poignant reminder of Florence Ifeyinwa Ogbuka’s legacy of love, kindness, and sacrifice. As family, friends, and members of the Daughters of Light Society gathered to celebrate her life, it was clear that Florence’s light would continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. Her memory will forever live on in the lives she touched, particularly in the unity and strength she instilled in her family.
