Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO), a leading oil and gas company in Africa, has launched a Blood Donor Club as part of its broader healthcare support initiatives for both employees and host communities.
The new Blood Donor Club, formed by SEEPCO employees, aims to serve as a reliable platform through which healthcare providers—including the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee (LSBTC) and the Nigerian Red Cross—can access voluntary blood donations during emergencies. The initiative builds on the company’s longstanding commitment to public health and emergency preparedness.
Over the years, SEEPCO has consistently provided its staff with comprehensive healthcare support across its operational sites in Nigeria. Beyond internal efforts, the company—through its non-profit partner, V Care for Development Foundation (VCDF)—has regularly organized medical outreach programs offering free consultations, medications, and laboratory tests in various local government areas.
Since 2022, VCDF has collaborated with LSBTC to organize annual blood donation drives, mobilizing SEEPCO volunteers. These efforts have contributed over 850 pints of blood to the Lagos State blood bank, directly benefiting more than 2,000 patients, including mothers in childbirth, accident victims, and critically ill children.
Speaking at the launch event held at the LSBTC office in Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos, the Executive Secretary of LSBTC, Dr. B. I. Osikomaiya, described the initiative as a commendable step toward ensuring a safe and sufficient blood supply across the state.
“This is a laudable initiative that aligns perfectly with our mission,” she said. “A structured donor club such as SEEPCO’s will provide a sustainable and dependable platform for emergency blood mobilization, especially in critical times.”
Mrs. Olayinka Animashaun, Head of the Donor Recruitment Unit at LSBTC, also lauded the effort, encouraging that such drives be conducted at least twice yearly to help close the blood supply gap in Lagos State.
Highlighting SEEPCO’s motivation for launching the initiative, Dr. Chris Offokansi, Chief General Manager of Human Resources and Industrial Relations at the company, reaffirmed SEEPCO’s commitment to public health.
“Through this initiative, Sterling Oil continues to support life-saving efforts across Nigeria. The Blood Donor Club will promote voluntary donation, raise awareness, and foster a culture of giving among our employees,” he said.
The SEEPCO Blood Donor Club is expected to become a key pillar in the state’s emergency health response strategy, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to community development and corporate social responsibility.
