Security Stakeholders Approve Four Checkpoints Along Seme Border Corridor

In a bid to address the issue of extortion and the proliferation of checkpoints along the Seme Border Corridor, security stakeholders have approved the establishment of four official checkpoints. This resolution was reached during a meeting convened on January 14, 2025, by the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 2 Command, AIG Adegoke M. Fayoade, mni, psc, at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos.

The meeting brought together officers from key security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force. The discussions centered on restoring order and promoting economic growth along the Seme Border Corridor.

A unanimous decision was made to establish a joint task force comprising members from all participating security agencies to enforce compliance with the agreed checkpoints. The approved checkpoints are located at:
1. Seme Point
2. Gbaji Point
3. Apa Point
4. Agbara Point

These checkpoints will be manned by representatives of all relevant security agencies to ensure comprehensive security coverage, foster inter-agency collaboration, and eliminate unnecessary checkpoints that hinder economic activities in the area.

To enhance transparency and accountability, the public has been encouraged to report any issues or complaints related to checkpoints along the corridor through the following dedicated hotlines: 07088158606 and 09062011772.

CSP Ayuba T. Umma, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, reaffirmed the commitment of Zone 2 Command and its partners to maintaining security and facilitating economic development in the region.
