The Anambra State Police Command has addressed public concerns following a tragic incident in Ifite Awka on October 24, where five people were killed and three others sustained serious injuries. In response to a protest video circulating on social media, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, clarified that the attack was not directed at any ethnic or religious group.

According to a preliminary police investigation, the armed assailants opened fire indiscriminately as they attempted to escape after police officers were alerted to their planned criminal activities in the area.

SP Ikenga stated that the command, while refraining from engaging in speculation, remains focused on enhancing security measures across the state. Ongoing patrols, increased security presence, and surveillance efforts are in place to safeguard residents and deter similar incidents.

The Anambra State Police Command expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims. In his statement, SP Ikenga assured the public that, as in previous cases where miscreants were apprehended and justice was served, the command is determined to bring those responsible for this crime to justice.
