A joint security team comprising the Police, Military, and Ihiala Vigilante successfully rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered his shuttle bus following a confrontation with suspected kidnappers in Ihiala, Anambra State.
The incident occurred on the evening of March 24, 2025, when security operatives, while on patrol, intercepted a black shuttle bus with registration number RSH 255MS moving suspiciously. Upon attempting to halt the vehicle, armed occupants opened fire on the security team, prompting a gun battle.
During the exchange, one of the suspects was neutralized, while four others fled into the bush with gunshot wounds. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a blindfolded victim, whose hands and legs were tied, and mouth sealed. The operatives rescued him, provided first aid, and took his statement. The vehicle was also recovered, and efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
Following the development, the Anambra State Police Command has urged hospitals to report any individual with bullet wounds or suspicious injuries to the nearest police station. This measure aims to aid the ongoing search and prevent further criminal activities.
The Command reiterated its commitment to security in the state through sustained patrols and targeted operations.
