Rescue operations are currently underway in the Sabon Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the collapse of a structure in Vidaz Estate. The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that the building had previously been demolished by the FCT Authorities due to its location in an illegally acquired area.

According to preliminary investigations, scavengers tampering with the remnants for scrap metal weakened the structure further, resulting in a secondary collapse. Fortunately, emergency responders successfully rescued five individuals from the rubble, and no fatalities have been reported.

In an official statement, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, urged the public to avoid accessing demolished structures and construction sites. “This incident underscores the importance of respecting the boundaries of these areas to ensure safety and prevent similar occurrences in the future,” she stated.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT, continues to monitor the situation closely, while authorities have deployed additional resources to complete the rescue and ensure public safety.
