Publishers have announced that a book written by Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan, the Head of Media Relations at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), will be officially unveiled to the public on July 25, 2023.

Premium Times Books, the publishing arm of the Premium Times Group, stated in a press release on Monday that the book titled “Cyber Politics: Social Media, Social Demography and Voting Behaviour in Nigeria” will be presented at the main auditorium of the NCC’s communications and digital economy complex in Abuja’s Mbora District.

The unveiling ceremony is scheduled to take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

“Cyber Politics” is a comprehensive 460-page book consisting of 12 chapters that delve into a critical phase of Nigerian democracy, particularly focusing on the country’s electoral processes.

The book draws insights from the 2015 presidential election, serving as a platform for analyses and offering valuable perspectives on the future of voting behavior in Nigeria.

With its skillful composition and innovative intellectual approach, this publication contributes significantly to the understanding of cyber politics in the nation.

The formal presentation of the book will be conducted by Umar Danbatta, a professor, Executive Vice Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, where Dr. Ibietan serves as the Head of Media Relations. Danbatta has also contributed the foreword for the book.

Adding to the book presentation, there will be a panel discussion moderated by Chido Onumah, a social rights activist and coordinator of the African Centre for Information and Media Literacy.

The panel session will include participation from Dr. Ibietan, Abiodun Adeniyi, a professor of mass communication and Deputy Dean of the School of Post Graduate Studies at Baze University, Abuja, as well as Mojeed Dahiru, a writer and newspaper columnist.

The panel session will center around the dynamics of Nigerian politics and how they have shaped the past two general elections. Additionally, the discussion will explore the potential implications of cyber politics on future electoral processes.

Various prominent personalities, including Prof. Danbatta, have provided commendations for the book and its author. Prof. Danbatta, in the foreword, highlights the historical context of Nigerian politics and democracy and the interplay between social media, voting behavior, and the influence of the social media ecosystem in the electoral process.

He describes the book as an engaging narrative, a scholarly guide, and a thought-provoking analysis.

Since June 12, 2023, the book has been available in both hardcover and paperback versions in bookstores across Nigeria. Electronic copies are also purchasable from online platforms such as Amazon.

The public presentation of the book is expected to draw prominent Nigerians, stakeholders in Nigerian politics, and those within the cyber/digital ecosystem.
