PTML Customs Command Generates N288.3 Billion In 2024, Seizes Smuggled Goods Worth N28.4 Million

The Port Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has reported a record-breaking revenue of N288.39 billion from January to November 6, 2024. This figure reflects a 34.8% increase compared to the N213.91 billion collected within the same period in 2023, underscoring the Command’s effective revenue drive.

Under the leadership of Comptroller Tenny Mankini Daniyan, the PTML Command set a new monthly revenue record in October 2024, collecting an unprecedented N44.02 billion. Describing October’s figure as the highest in the command’s history, Comptroller Daniyan praised his officers’ hard work and expressed confidence that they could continue to surpass revenue targets.

The Customs Area Controller attributed the success to several factors, including diligent efforts by officers, compliance by port users, and collaboration with sister government agencies. Alongside its revenue achievements, the command has made significant strides in anti-smuggling efforts, intercepting various contraband items.

During the period under review, customs officers seized goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N28.48 million, detaining three suspects linked to these items who have since been granted administrative bail. The items, seized from 40-foot containers, included used motor parts, household appliances, parboiled rice, and large quantities of vegetable oil.

Moreover, the Command intercepted firearms and ammunition concealed within imported vehicles. Among the items recovered were a SIGSAUER 1911 pistol, a Glock 22 Austria pistol, multiple rounds of various ammunition, and catridges extracted from vehicles such as a Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Sienna, Lexus RX350, and Mazda CX5.

Comptroller Daniyan emphasized the importance of officers’ commitment to their duties, urging them to serve as both patriotic citizens and diligent customs officials. He commended the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his support and the introduction of modern trade facilitation tools like the B’Odogwu platform, currently in pilot use at the PTML Command.

As the year-end approaches, Comptroller Daniyan encouraged officers to maintain efficient cargo clearance processes, particularly for compliant roll-on/roll-off consignments, and to uphold strict inspection standards to detect smuggling attempts.

The statement was released by CSC Muhammad Yakubu, the PTML Command’s Public Relations Officer, on November 8, 2024.
