The Police Service Commission (PSC) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to initiatives that promote accountability and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
This assurance was given by the PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hashimu Argungu, mni, during the 41st anniversary celebration of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, in Abuja. Argungu was represented at the event by Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations.
Argungu described the PSC as a constitutionally empowered oversight body that shares in the vision of building a policing system that is people-centred, transparent, and guided by the rule of law.
“For over four decades, the PCRC has served as a vital bridge between the Nigeria Police Force and the communities they serve,” he noted, lauding the Committee’s longstanding role in promoting trust, mutual respect, and public confidence in policing.
He added that the event was not only a celebration of the PCRC’s legacy but also a recognition of achievements made possible through community collaboration, dialogue, and citizen participation in national peacebuilding and crime prevention.
“Strengthening partnerships between the Police, the public, and oversight institutions like the PSC is not just an aspiration but a necessity for a safer, more secure Nigeria,” Argungu emphasized.
He called on all stakeholders — including government, law enforcement agencies, civil society, and local communities — to work together to deepen trust, embrace innovation, and institutionalize community-driven approaches to policing.
As the PCRC marks this significant milestone, Argungu expressed hope that the body will continue to thrive in its mission of fostering cooperation between the police and the public.
The celebration was attended by various dignitaries and community stakeholders who applauded the PCRC’s continued impact in bridging the gap between the Nigeria Police and the citizens it serves.
