Emotions ran high on Friday, June 20, 2025, as dignitaries, friends, and family members gathered at the Christian Reformed Church-Nigeria in Jalingo for the wake-keep ceremony of late Mrs. Zeporah Galumje, wife of retired Supreme Court Justice and current Police Service Commission (PSC) Commissioner representing the Judiciary, Justice Paul Adamu Galumje.
In a deeply emotional address, Justice Galumje, the chief mourner, described his late wife as his lifelong partner and source of peace. He recalled their mutual commitment at the start of their marriage that only death would part them—a vow that was fulfilled with her passing on June 4, 2025.
“She left me at the age and time I needed her most,” he lamented. “At my age, I needed her, but she is no longer with me. I will remain alone until it is time for God to call me home. My wife created peace in my life and in my house, but she has gone and will never come back to me. I am, however, strong, and it is coming from the Almighty God.”
Representing the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, the Head of Press and Public Relations at the Commission, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, delivered a tribute on behalf of the PSC.
Mr. Ani described the late Mrs. Galumje as a woman of dignity and compassion whose silent sacrifices contributed immensely to her husband’s distinguished service in the Nigerian judiciary.
“She was a great woman whose unwavering support, encouragement, and presence served as a source of strength to her husband,” Ani said. “In her quiet way, she brought peace and harmony into her home, making it possible for Justice Galumje to serve the nation with such honour.”
Ani added that the Police Service Commission stands in solidarity with Justice Galumje during this time of grief, offering prayers for the family and expressing hope that the Almighty grants her eternal rest.
“We are gathered here to honour a woman who meant so much to her family, her community, and all who had the privilege to know her. We mourn with you in this moment of profound loss,” he said.
Mrs. Zeporah Galumje’s final interment is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Didan village in Taraba State, her husband’s hometown.
