In a recent development, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has given its approval for the appointment and deployment of eight Commissioners of Police to various State Commands across the country.
The decision came after careful consideration and evaluation of the candidates’ qualifications and capabilities.
The Commission expressed its appreciation to the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his adherence to the latest policy on gender sensitivity in his recommendation. The Commission recognized and commended the IGP’s efforts to promote gender equality within the police force.
However, the Commission has drawn the attention of the Inspector General to the issue of geographical representation. It expects the inclusion of more officers from the North East and South East geopolitical zones in future proposals, as these regions have not yet reached the benchmark of 15 percent, which was decided upon during the Commission’s last Plenary Meeting.
The newly appointed State Commissioners of Police are as follows: Godwin Aghaulor, now CP Bornu State Command; Adelesi E. Oluwarotimi, CP Kwara State Command; Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, CP Oyo State Command; Augustina Ogbodo, CP Ebonyi State Command; Samuel Titus Musa, CP Kebbi State Command; Aderemi Olufemi Adeoye, CP Anambra State Command; Stephen Olarewaju, CP Imo State Command; and Alamatu Abiodun Mustapha, CP Ogun State Command.
The Chairman of the Commission and a retired Inspector General of Police, Dr. Solomon Arase expressed his satisfaction with the recommendations made by the acting IGP. He considered the postings to be fair and balanced on average and praised the inclusion of women in the appointments.
However, Arase advised the acting IGP to take into account the disadvantaged geo-political zones while submitting future proposals for the Commission’s ratification. It is essential to ensure equitable representation across all regions of the country within the police force.
