The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of six Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and the promotion of the Commissioner of Police (CP) for Enugu State, Uzuegbu Kanayo, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG).
In its latest round of promotions and postings, the PSC also appointed new Commissioners of Police for Oyo and Enugu State Commands, as well as promoted eight Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
The newly appointed DIGs include:
– *Sadiq Idiris Abubakar* – Commandant, Police Academy, Wudil, Kano. He previously served as CP, Federal Capital Territory, and Coordinator of Police Special Forces.
– *Benjamin Nebolisa Okolo* – AIG, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Force Headquarters, Abuja. He was formerly AIG Zone 16, Yenagoa.
– *Williams Adebowale* – Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos.
– *Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi Bali* – AIG, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Enugu.
– *Idegwu Basil Ukuoma* – AIG, Zone 14, Katsina.
– *Adebola Ayinde Hamzat* – AIG, Zone 16, Yenagoa. He previously served as CP, Oyo State, CP Border Patrol, and CP Crime Prevention & Community Safety.
With AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu’s promotion, the PSC has appointed new Commissioners of Police for Enugu and Oyo State Commands:
– *CP Ademola Johnson*– Former Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police, has been appointed CP, Oyo State. He previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Delta State.
– *CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa* – Now CP, Enugu State, was previously DCP Operations in Kaduna and Imo States, and ACP in the Police Mobile Force, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The PSC also promoted eight Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners of Police. Those promoted include:
– *Abdullahi Kamba Usman*
– *Sani Abdu*
– *Ifeanyi Owo*
– *Vincent Orole*
– *Elisha Atikinkpan*
– *Margaret Okonkwo*
– *Alhasan Aliyu Guga*
– *Imo Owinizi Ezekiel*
The newly promoted officers underwent written examinations and an interactive oral interview before their appointments.
Presiding over the promotion exercise, PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), urged the new DIGs to provide the necessary support to the Inspector-General of Police in ensuring national security and maintaining law and order. The session was attended by Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd), DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), and PSC Secretary, Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani.
The PSC reiterated its commitment to improving the effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force through strategic appointments and promotions aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and security across the country.
