The Police Service Commission (PSC) has released the list of 10,000 successful candidates for recruitment into the Constable cadre of the Nigeria Police Force. This announcement follows the approval of the recruitment process, emphasizing merit, gender sensitivity, and federal character as guiding principles.
The PSC received the Police Recruitment Board’s report today, confirming that 9,000 applicants were recruited for General Duty roles and 1,000 for Specialist positions. The recruitment process involved collaboration with stakeholders such as the Nigeria Police Force, the National Assembly, and the Federal Character Commission to ensure a fair distribution of successful candidates across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
A Recruitment Board was established, including representatives from various relevant bodies, to oversee the process. Nigerian youths were invited to apply online from October 15 to November 26, 2023, resulting in 609,886 applications. After meeting initial requirements, 416,323 applicants were shortlisted for physical and document screening, which took place across all states and the Federal Capital Territory from January 8 to January 29, 2024.
Post-screening, 171,956 applicants advanced to the Computer Based Tests (CBT) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Subsequently, 15,447 General Duty applicants who excelled in the CBT underwent medical screening. Specialist candidates were subjected to practical tests followed by medical evaluations. Each recruitment stage was executed with rigorous scrutiny.
From this meticulous process, 10,000 candidates—9,000 for General Duty and 1,000 Specialists—were selected. The Specialist recruitment was conducted in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure capability and geographical representation.
Dr. Solomon Arase, CFR, retired Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the PSC, highlighted that the rigorous recruitment process aims to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force, reinforcing its commitment to community-focused and service-oriented policing. He expressed optimism about the future of the nation’s security, emphasizing the integrity and transparency of the process.
“The entire recruitment process was designed to build a Police Force that is competent, reliable, and representative of the best that Nigeria has to offer,” Dr. Arase stated. The final selection process, structured to ensure fairness and inclusivity, was guided by the National Assembly’s directive to select 10 candidates from each local government area.
To maintain confidentiality and comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023, the PSC ensured that the release of the candidates’ list protects their personal data.
