Renowned academician and political stalwart of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Professor Leroy Edozien, is poised to receive significant recognition at the upcoming Nigerian Silent Heroes Awards (NSHA). Scheduled to be honored for his dual contributions to medicine and politics, this distinction underscores his remarkable dedication to both his profession and public service.
The Silent Heroes Awards, now in its sixth year, is orchestrated by the SHA Initiative, a respected non-governmental organization that acknowledges the selfless services of individuals to their communities and the nation at large. The awards aim to celebrate those who contribute silently but significantly to societal development and human welfare.
Professor Edozien’s academic journey is marked by an impressive array of qualifications across multiple disciplines, including basic sciences, medicine, and law, from prestigious institutions such as the Universities of Ibadan, London, and Glasgow. His medical career, particularly in obstetrics and gynecology, has seen him earn accolades in the UK, including a national clinical excellence award in 2008 and recognition as an ‘Exceptional Role Model’ by medical students at the University of Manchester in 2009.
Apart from his clinical expertise, Professor Edozien is also a prolific author, having penned numerous academic papers, book chapters, and three books, with his “Labour Ward Handbook” receiving international acclaim.
In addition to his academic and professional achievements, Professor Edozien has actively contributed to his community through the Ubili Endowment, which supports youth development. He also holds the traditional title of Ubili Ka Nkwu Ahaba, reflecting his deep roots and commitment to his heritage in Asaba.
The 2024 NSHA ceremony promises to be a vibrant affair with performances in music, dance, and comedy, providing a festive backdrop to honor the quiet contributions of distinguished Nigerians like Professor Edozien. This event not only highlights individual achievements but also fosters a greater appreciation for the unsung heroes among us.
