The Chief of Standard and Evaluation, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) AVM Aliyu Bello, says that local content production would free us from overdependence of technology.
Bello said this at the Logistics Command Inter-Unit Research and Development (R&D) competition in sustaining logistics support in NAF operations through innovation.
He commended NAF for looking inwards, developing indigenous technological capacity for the development of the operations of the NAF.
Hybrid News reports that six NAF units and one NAF school carried out the various research and development projects over the past months.
Innovations displayed include: Drones, Intruder Detection System, Digital Car Speed Detector, Automated Base Security and Fire Alarm System, Design and Construction of a Single Barrell Rocket Launcher.
Others include: Design and Construction of Alpha Jet Aircraft Parachute Packing Machine for Ejection Seat Headrest Assembly.
“This will gradually free us from overdependence of technology,” the AVM said.
He commended the AOC, Logistics Command, AVM Hassan Abubakar in the efforts made at harnessing the potential of their personnel in utilising indigenous resources to develop these projects.
“I am pleased with the number of projects displayed, it renews the hope that, with inguinity, determination and right leadership, NAF personnel can achieve much.
“I believe that in joining hands together and building strong partnership, there is no challenge that we cannot overcome as a service and as a nation.
“l am confident that this event will eventually bring out product that will enhance NAF operations and contribute to the development of our dear nation,” he said.
Bello encouraged the command to make more efforts in collaborating with relevant stakeholders to promote research and development activities within the command.
Also speaking, the AOC, Logistics Command, NAF, AVM Hassan Abubakar said that NAF looks to continuously ensure that sufficient aircrafts are available for deployment whenever the needs arises.
“However, the space and components essential for the serviceability of these aircrafts are not usually manufactured in Nigeria and need to be sourced from overseas.
“Unfortunately, deliveries of these components, which are exorbitant, are often delayed with attendant negative effects on our operations.
“In realization of these shortcomings, the NAF has placed premium value on research and development to abate the situation,” the AOC said.
