President Bola Tinubu has appointed new Directors-General for two of Nigeria’s key intelligence agencies—the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been named the new Director-General of the NIA. A seasoned diplomat, Ambassador Mohammed has had a distinguished career in the foreign service since joining the NIA in 1995. His experience includes roles in several countries, including North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and Libya, where he served as the head of the Nigerian mission. A 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano, Ambassador Mohammed has also held positions at the State House in Abuja.
For the DSS, Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi has been appointed as the new Director-General. Mr. Ajayi, who previously held the position of Assistant Director-General, has served in various capacities across the country. His tenure has seen him in leadership roles as the State Director of DSS in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi states, showcasing his extensive experience in internal security operations.
These appointments come in the wake of the resignation of the former chiefs of the NIA and DSS. President Tinubu has charged the newly appointed security chiefs with the task of repositioning their respective agencies for improved performance. He emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration with sister agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to address the pressing security challenges facing the nation.
The President also expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their dedication and service, wishing them success in their future endeavors.
Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, released the statement confirming these appointments.
