President of Nigeria Community in Cote D’Ivoire, Others Honored with West Africa Icon Award

Chief Onwuchelu Michael Emeka, President of the Nigerian Community in Cote D’Ivoire, has been honored with the prestigious West Africa Icon Award (WAIA) for 2024. This accolade recognizes his significant contributions to society, particularly in combating human trafficking and child prostitution.

High Chief Darlinghtyn Momoh Umoru, a security consultant and former Consultant to the Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons, praised Chief Emeka for his extraordinary efforts. Under Chief Emeka’s leadership, over 860 Nigerian girls, victims of human trafficking and child prostitution, have been rescued and reunited with their families in Nigeria. This achievement was made possible through close collaboration with the Nigerian Embassy in Cote D’Ivoire.

“Chief Emeka’s commendable contributions and recognizable achievements in curbing human trafficking and child prostitution cannot be overemphasized,” stated High Chief Umoru. He added that Chief Emeka’s efforts have not only improved the lives of these young girls but have also helped preserve the good image of Nigeria.

Since becoming president of the Nigerian community in Cote D’Ivoire, Chief Emeka has significantly enhanced the cultural values and reputation of Nigerians in the region. His deep engagement in community affairs and his role in fostering unity and representing the interests of Nigerians were also highlighted.

The Director of WAIA announced that the award ceremony will take place on August 17, 2024. He emphasized Chief Emeka’s professional and community contributions, noting his vital role in promoting unity among Nigerians in Cote D’Ivoire.

Other distinguished individuals set to be honored include Dr. Olusegun Musa, former gubernatorial candidate of ANDP in Lagos State; Mrs. Roseline Amioku Eno, Delta State Civil Service chairman; Senior Royal High Chief Iyadua Vincent Igietemho; Maritime player Comptroller HK Ejibunu; Rt. Hon. Dr. Esther Uduehi, PDP BoT member; Hon. Marvelous Muizu Zibiri, Executive Chairman of Etsako West LGA; Mr. Fred Yoro, Permanent Secretary in Delta State; Mr. Paul Ejime; and Dr. Chioma Amajoh, among others.

The West Africa Icon Award is a testament to the outstanding achievements and contributions of these individuals towards the betterment of their communities and the West African region as a whole.
