The Anambra State Police Command has taken control of the scene of a fatal motor accident that claimed the lives of six persons at the Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha. The tragic incident, which occurred on the night of March 15, 2025, also left several others injured.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the intervention aims to restore order at the scene and facilitate investigations into the cause of the accident.
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident was caused by a truck that lost control and rammed into pedestrians, two tricycles, and a commercial bus carrying passengers. The injured victims are currently receiving treatment in the hospital, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue. Some relatives of the victims have been contacted and informed about the incident.
While expressing condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing the injured a speedy recovery, the Anambra State Police Command urged drivers to conduct proper vehicle checks before hitting the road to prevent similar tragedies.
