The Police Service Commission (PSC) celebrated its second annual end-of-year Party and Awards Ceremony at its Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, on Tuesday, December 19th, 2023. The event not only marked a celebration of excellence but also served as a testament to the significant strides made under the leadership of Dr. Solomon Arase, CFR, the 18th Inspector General of Police and current Chairman of the Commission.
The relocation of the Commission to its corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, was a significant achievement that reflected Dr. Arase’s determination to transform the Commission into a forward-looking institution. The move, which had been in the works for over a decade, finally became a reality under Dr. Arase’s leadership.
As Dr. Arase approaches his first anniversary in office on March 29th, 2024, the Commission has undergone a remarkable transformation. From a neglected and marginalized entity, the PSC has emerged as a beacon of excellence, garnering praise and recognition from both Nigerians and international stakeholders.
During the end-of-year ceremony, Dr. Arase highlighted the Commission’s achievements over the past nine months, including the training of over 130 staff members locally and internationally. He emphasized the importance of capacity building and professional development in ensuring that the Commission can fulfill its mandate effectively.
Under Dr. Arase’s leadership, the Commission has strengthened its relationship with the Nigeria Police Force, fostering mutual respect and cooperation between the two institutions. This has led to improved oversight and accountability, enhancing the overall effectiveness of law enforcement efforts in the country.
Despite facing challenges such as limited funding, Dr. Arase remains undaunted in his efforts to reform the Commission and improve its efficiency and effectiveness. He has prioritized training and retraining of staff, established a Compliance Monitoring Unit, and streamlined disciplinary processes within the Nigeria Police Force.
One of Dr. Arase’s notable achievements is the ongoing recruitment of Nigerian youths into the constable cadre of the Nigeria Police Force. The recruitment exercise, conducted in collaboration with relevant agencies in the police sector, has been transparent and inclusive, reflecting Dr. Arase’s commitment to excellence and fairness.
As Dr. Arase continues to lead the Police Service Commission, Nigerians can expect further improvements in the country’s law enforcement sector. His visionary leadership and dedication to service have positioned the Commission for continued success, ultimately benefiting Nigeria and its citizens.
Ikechukwu Ani, the Spokesman for the Police Service Commission, emphasized that Dr. Arase’s tenure is just the beginning of a promising journey towards a more efficient and effective police force. With Dr. Arase at the helm, the Commission is poised to fulfill its mandate and contribute to the safety and security of the nation.
