Police Service Commission Chairman Mourns Iconic Police Veteran Ibrahim Lamorde

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Dr. Solomon Arase, CFR, a retired Inspector General of Police, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of DIG Ibrahim Lamorde (Rtd), former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Lamorde, aged 61, died in Egypt while receiving medical treatment.

In his tribute, Dr. Arase praised Lamorde’s humility and his moderate approach to power, recalling the advice he gave to Lamorde after his tenure at the EFCC. Arase advised him to enhance his policing and leadership skills at the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), an advice Lamorde heeded, which positively influenced his career in the Nigeria Police Force.

Dr. Arase remarked on Lamorde’s unwavering humility and dedication throughout his career, noting that “at no time did power get into the head of the late officer.” He emphasized that the training at NIPSS equipped Lamorde for the significant challenges he faced in his policing career.

“The nation has lost one of its brightest and most consummate intelligence officers who contributed immensely to the growth of intelligence policing in Nigeria,” Dr. Arase lamented.

Born in 1962 in Mubi, Adamawa State, Ibrahim Lamorde joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1986. He served as the 3rd Chairman of the EFCC from 2011 to 2015 and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021. His career was marked by significant contributions to law enforcement and anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria.
