The Anambra State Police Command has successfully recovered a shuttle bus belonging to the Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS), just hours after it was snatched by a gang of armed hoodlums at Nkwelle in Oyi Local Government Area.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the vehicle, a shuttle bus with registration number AGU 651 ZL, was recovered on May 17, 2025, by operatives attached to the Obosi Divisional Headquarters.
The recovery followed a distress call received by the Command’s Control Room from the bus driver, who reported that five armed men had disguised themselves as passengers before robbing him of the bus and a cash sum of ₦20,000.
Acting swiftly, the police operatives mobilized and alerted all relevant security checkpoints in the area, effectively blocking possible escape routes. This strategic move forced the hoodlums to abandon the stolen vehicle at Slaughter Junction, Nkwelle, before fleeing into a nearby bush.
Ikenga confirmed that the vehicle was recovered intact and that security patrols in the area have been intensified to ensure continued public safety and to track down the fleeing suspects.
“The Command remains committed to the safety and security of residents and will continue to respond promptly to any security threat,” the statement noted.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies as efforts to apprehend the criminals are ongoing.
