The Nigeria Police Force, led by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has achieved significant milestones in its ongoing battle against crime, including the recovery of counterfeit currencies worth N129,542,823,000, the arrest of gunrunners, and the rescue of 36 kidnapped victims in Kebbi State.
In a major breakthrough on December 8, 2024, police operatives in Gwale, Kano State, apprehended a suspect, Nura Ibrahim, and seized counterfeit notes amounting to N392,000, $7,800, and five ATM cards. Further investigations led to the arrest of his accomplices, Muhammed Muntari and Usman Abdullahi, and the recovery of counterfeit U.S. dollars, CFA francs, and Nigerian naira totaling over N129 billion.
The crackdown on gunrunning also recorded progress on December 9, 2024, when operatives along the Kaduna-Kano Expressway arrested three suspects, identified as Buhari Suleiman, Jamil Yakubu, and Aliyu Abdullahi. A search revealed 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and a round of AK-47 ammunition in their possession.
Additionally, in Kebbi State, police operatives rescued 36 kidnapped victims along the Mairairai/Bena Road in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area. The victims, returning from their farms, were safely freed on December 8, 2024. Following the rescue, the police visited the affected community to engage with residents, debrief the victims, and assure them of continued efforts to safeguard their lives and property.
The Inspector-General of Police reaffirmed the force’s dedication to eradicating crime, emphasizing its zero tolerance for economic saboteurs and criminal activities that threaten Nigeria’s security and progress. He commended the operatives for their vigilance and urged continued collaboration with the public to ensure a safer nation.
Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated that the achievements underscore the police’s relentless commitment to tackling crime in all forms and securing the nation’s economic and social stability.
