The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of an automatic pump-action gun and the arrest of five suspects in connection with a deadly land dispute that led to the murder of two individuals and left another seriously injured in Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the tragic incident occurred on June 3, 2025, at Okochi-Ime Village. Armed men, reportedly using pump-action rifles and driving an unmarked black Toyota Corolla, attacked their victims before fleeing the scene.
The bodies of the two deceased victims have been recovered and deposited at the morgue, while the injured individual is receiving treatment at a hospital.
SP Ikenga stated that the five suspects currently in custody are undergoing interrogation as investigations continue. The Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka for a thorough investigation.
Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other suspects who are still at large. The Command has reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice is served and restoring calm in the area.
