A successful operation led by the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Ari Mohammed Ali resulted in the dismantling of a notorious syndicate of kidnappers operating in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, and its surrounding areas.

On the 6th of May, 2023, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the intelligence received by AIG Ali revealed the possible location of the kidnappers’ hideout.

Responding swiftly to the information, a dedicated team of Detectives from the Zonal Monitoring Unit took immediate action.

Upon their arrival at a forest in Ibara Orile, Ogun State, the kidnappers opened fire on the Detectives, leading to a fierce gun battle.

In the exchange of fire, four kidnappers were neutralized, while others managed to escape, albeit with gunshot wounds.

Subsequent to the encounter, a meticulous search of the hideout was conducted which yielded significant results, with the recovery of one unregistered Bajaj Motorcycle, four AK47 rifles, six magazines loaded with live ammunition, as well as ten expended rounds.

The discovery of these weapons highlights the dangerous nature of the syndicate and the extent of their criminal activities.

Further investigation into the incident revealed that its members were recruited from various parts of Nigeria, with some even hailing from neighboring countries such as Niger and Chad.

The authorities are not resting on their laurels and are currently intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects who managed to evade capture during the operation.

Additionally, investigations are ongoing to uncover any potential connections between the syndicate and other criminal networks.

The successful raid on the kidnappers’ hideout serves as a significant blow to criminal activities in the region, providing a renewed sense of security for the residents of Abeokuta and its environs.

The dedication and bravery demonstrated by the police force in their battle against organized crime are commendable.

The public is encouraged to support law enforcement agencies by providing any relevant information that could aid in the arrest and prosecution of the fleeing suspects. Together, we can continue to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities.
