Police Raid In Kwale Leads To Significant Arms Recovery, Arrests

A successful police operation in Kwale, Delta State, resulted in the recovery of substantial arms and ammunition and the arrest of a suspected cultist and gun runner. The operation, directed by Commissioner of Police CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, showcases the Delta State Police Command’s ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in the region.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding the activities of suspected armed robbers and kidnappers in the Kwale axis, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi tasked the Commander of the Quick Response Squad, SP Osadolor Godwin, to lead a surveillance team in a targeted operation. On June 8, 2024, at approximately 11:40 AM, the team stormed a criminal hideout in an uncompleted building.

Upon the arrival of the police, two suspects opened fire and subsequently escaped. However, the operation led to the recovery of significant weaponry, including fifty-one rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition, three locally made cut-to-size guns, two pump-action guns, thirty-four rounds of live cartridges, and one AK-47 magazine. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

In a separate operation, operatives led by ASP Julius Robinson conducted a special assignment based on credible intelligence. On June 8, 2024, at approximately 11:30 AM, they arrested Ufoma Omene, a 55-year-old male from Mosogar, in Ethiope West LGA, Delta State, residing in Jesse junction area of Sapele town. A search of his residence resulted in the recovery of a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle with a revolver-like magazine and thirteen rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Omene is also suspected of being a member of the Eiye confraternity and has been involved in multiple criminal activities in the area. Investigations are ongoing.

CP Abaniwonda Olufemi assured all residents and visitors in Delta State of enhanced security measures, ensuring they can sleep peacefully.
