Police Panel Concludes Investigation On Viral Video Incident At Maroko Police Station

The six-member panel established by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Fayoade M. Adegoke, has concluded its investigation into an incident where a woman claimed she was unlawfully detained at the Maroko Police Station alongside male and under-aged individuals. The probe followed a viral video that brought attention to the alleged human rights violations.

The panel, which included representatives from the media, civil society organizations, legal practitioners, and senior police officers, submitted its findings to AIG Adegoke at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos. The panel assured that the investigation was conducted diligently and thoroughly, commending the Nigeria Police Force for initiating the inquiry. The panel emphasized that the effort reflects the police’s commitment to addressing human rights concerns and curtailing abuses.

Upon receiving the report, AIG Adegoke expressed appreciation for the panel’s work and promised to forward the findings to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for further review and necessary action. He reaffirmed the police force’s dedication to rule-of-law-compliant policing and ensuring that public confidence in law enforcement is maintained.

The investigation and subsequent report are part of the police’s broader efforts to ensure transparency and accountability within the force, particularly regarding human rights practices.
