The Assistant Inspector General of Police overseeing Zone 2 Command, which includes Lagos and Ogun States, AIG Ari Muhammed Ali, has issued the dismissal of AP. No. 279495 Inspector Sunday Adetoye and AP. No. 223521 Inspector Ogunleye Stephen, both stationed at the Zonal Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, for their involvement in armed robbery, official corruption, and illegal duty.
The dismissed officers, already under trial for similar offenses, were found on November 23, 2023, around 2200hrs, in the company of three others, including two members of a Vigilante Group (Semiu Afisu ‘M’, Abidoye Femi ‘M’), and Charles John ‘M’ (the driver). Armed with 2 SMG rifles and live ammunition, they unlawfully searched the residence of Taiwo Monsuru ‘M’ and Akintola Sunday ‘M’ in Obada-Oko, Ogun State, and stole 5 iPhones, 1 Samsung smartphone, 1 Tecno smartphone, and 2 laptop computers.
Following a report by the residents, officers from Ifo Division set up a roadblock and successfully apprehended the occupants of the vehicle involved in the illegal operation, excluding ASP Ajayi Victor ‘m’, the leader, who remains at large.
The AIG has instructed that the dismissed officers be charged to court alongside the civilians involved. He emphasizes the need for all police personnel to uphold professionalism and adhere to the law, warning that any misconduct will be met with accountability. Under the leadership of IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, the current management of the Nigeria Police Force remains staunchly intolerant of unprofessional and corrupt practices. The public is encouraged to report any unprofessional conduct by officers and personnel, reaffirming the Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding everyone.
