A Police-led Joint Security Team, comprising operatives from the Nigerian Army’s 302 Artillery Regiment, the Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Anambra State Vigilante Group, has successfully dislodged a notorious criminal camp in Ogbunka, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation followed sustained intelligence gathering and resulted in a fierce six-hour gun battle between the security team and armed criminals.
The superior firepower of the security forces overwhelmed the hoodlums, neutralizing their defenses, including explosive devices used as shields. Though some of the criminals fled with gunshot wounds, the team recovered various items from the camp, including relief materials such as pots, foodstuffs, and dismantled parts of suspected stolen vehicles.
SP Ikenga noted that the operatives have taken full control of the area to maintain security dominance and prevent any resurgence of criminal activity. He also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
“The Anambra State Police Command, on behalf of all security agencies involved, wishes to assure Ndi Anambra and residents that the confidence reposed in us for the protection of lives and property will not be taken for granted,” the statement read.
The Command emphasized its continued resolve, alongside sister security agencies, to deny unrepentant criminals the space to operate within the state.
