The Nigeria Police Force has intensified its crackdown on kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes across the country, executing decisive nationwide operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and curbing illegal arms proliferation.

In a series of coordinated raids during the first quarter of 2025, security operatives rescued multiple victims, apprehended key suspects, and recovered weapons and illicit funds, marking a significant stride in the fight against organized crime.

One of the most recent operations took place in Taraba State, where police operatives attached to the state command, in collaboration with other security agencies, successfully intercepted a kidnapping incident along the Takum/Mararaba road on March 29, 2025. A fierce gun battle ensued at Muji Town, leading to the rescue of 20 kidnapped victims. Vehicles abandoned by the fleeing kidnappers were also recovered. Two victims who sustained injuries during the operation are currently receiving medical care.

Similarly, in Kano State, an extensive police investigation following the March 8, 2025, kidnapping of Dr. Muhammad Bello Yushau led to multiple arrests. On March 18 and 19, the state’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, utilizing technical analysis, apprehended key suspects, including Tukur Lawal, alias Maikudi, and his accomplices—Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim. The police recovered a locally made rifle and N4,840,000 in cash, believed to be ransom money. Dr. Yushau was rescued unharmed and reunited with his family.

In another operation, the Special Tactical Squad (STS), acting on credible intelligence, arrested Kafinta Musa in Taraba State for involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms. During his arrest, an AK49 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition was recovered. Investigations are ongoing to capture other members of his criminal syndicate.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the officers for their bravery and professionalism. He reiterated the Force’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities and urged citizens to continue providing timely information to support security efforts. These successful operations underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication, in collaboration with the public, to ensuring the safety and security of all communities.
