The Anambra State Police Command has launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a dead body hanging on a tree in a bush at Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on May 16, 2025, has prompted the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, to direct operatives of the Command to step up surveillance and intelligence gathering across the state. He emphasized the need to proactively curb crime and unravel the truth behind the disturbing event.
According to preliminary reports, the discovery was made after an unidentified individual used the deceased’s phone to notify the police of a body found hanging on a mango tree. Police operatives who arrived at the scene have since recovered the body, which has now been identified and deposited in the morgue.
Efforts are currently ongoing to contact the family of the deceased for further action. Meanwhile, the police have assured the public of their commitment to uncovering the facts surrounding the case and bringing any perpetrators involved to justice.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on May 17, 2025, reiterating the Command’s resolve to ensure the safety of residents and the maintenance of public peace in the state.
