In a decisive operation in the early hours of February 9, 2024, the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Bureau – Intelligence Response Team (FIB-IRT) successfully neutralized and eliminated notorious kidnappers, including the kingpin Musa Wada (Sabo) Magaji, in an operation around Mpape, Abuja. The police operatives also destroyed the camps of the kidnappers who had been causing distress to Abuja residents.
Acting on credible intelligence, the FIB-IRT engaged the armed bandits in a gun battle lasting approximately 30 minutes. The intense operation resulted in many of the bandits being fatally injured, with one police operative sustaining bullet wounds.
This accomplishment closely follows the neutralization of Abubakar Wada, an associate of Musa Wada, on February 8, 2024, who served as a lead to their hideout. Musa Wada, alias Sabo, was the mastermind behind numerous kidnappings for ransom in areas including Mpape and Bwari in the FCT, Kagarko in Kaduna, and Masaka and Nukun Village in Nasarawa State. His criminal activities involved identifying affluent targets and mobilizing armed gangs for abductions.
The successful raid on their hideout, situated in the outskirts of Mpape Hills, was executed by the courageous FIB-IRT through a surprise assault, resulting in the elimination of these notorious criminals. Recovered items from the hideout, such as mobile phones, multiple SIM cards, charms, and hard drugs, serve as crucial pieces of evidence for ongoing investigations. Ongoing efforts aim to recover additional arms, ammunition, and other equipment used in their nefarious operations.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its unwavering commitment to combat crime, ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. Proactive measures will persist to dismantle criminal networks and bring perpetrators of heinous crimes to justice.
