The Anambra State Police Command has refuted a report circulating under the headline “Anambra Traditional Ceremony Descends Into Chaos As Gunmen Abduct 8, Injure 12”, dismissing it as a misleading and fictional account aimed at causing unrest and discrediting police operations in the state.

According to a statement released by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Command, the report is described as a ploy to stir public tension and distract from an ongoing police investigation. The Command emphasized that no such incident of abduction or injury took place during the traditional ceremony in question.

SP Ikenga clarified that the individuals mentioned in the report were actually arrested at the venue of the proposed ceremony in connection with a petition filed against them. The police had attempted to engage them for questioning related to the petition. Following their arrest, the suspects were debriefed and subsequently released to a reliable surety, pending further police action.

The Police Command urged the public to disregard the false report, stressing that it is a fabrication intended to undermine the credibility of law enforcement in Anambra State. The Command remains focused on its duty to ensure safety and security in the state and to continue its investigations without distraction.

The Anambra State Police Command reassured residents of their commitment to maintaining law and order and called on the public to rely on verified information rather than rumors or sensationalized reports.
