The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered and dismantled an illegal internet fraud training facility, commonly known as a “Yahoo School,” in the Iju area of Lagos State. Ten suspects, including four alleged masterminds and six trainees, were arrested during the operation.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspected ringleaders—Chibuike Ihejika (23), Stanley Ihejika (22), Obiora Oyediba (26), and Emmanuel Oyedibe (25)—were training others in cyber fraud. The six trainees arrested include Okorie Henry, Otoh Chisom (20), Okeke Kwufrochikwu (26), Uchenna Obeji (26), Minachi Udochukwu (12), and Chinedu Ukachukwu (23).
Preliminary investigations revealed that the principal suspects recruited their trainees from Anambra State, engaging them in internet fraud while confiscating the proceeds. The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for further investigation and prosecution. Authorities are also working to track down those who financed the operation and the owner of the facility.
The police noted that one of the suspects, 12-year-old Minachi Udochukwu, had visible injuries allegedly inflicted by the main suspect to force him into cybercrime. He is currently receiving medical attention and is in protective custody until his relatives are identified.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers involved in the operation and assured residents that the command remains committed to tackling cybercrime. He urged parents and guardians to monitor their children’s activities and encouraged victims of the syndicate’s fraudulent operations to report to the SCID, Yaba.
The Lagos State Police Command called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police for prompt action.
