The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to a criminal syndicate that defrauded a victim of two truckloads of cement valued at ₦17 million.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrests followed a complaint received by operatives at the 33 Police Station. The suspects, identified as Nnanna Charles and Okoye Chukwunonso, were apprehended in possession of the stolen cement, which had been traced to various shops across the state.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had met the prime suspect, one Edwin Emeka, through an online platform and had maintained communication with him. However, after the cement was delivered, all attempts to contact Edwin failed, prompting the police investigation.
Ikenga stated that the two suspects are currently undergoing interrogation to aid in the arrest of Edwin and other members of the syndicate.
The case underscores the need for caution when engaging in online business transactions and highlights the risks of dealing with unknown persons.
The police have assured that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
