Police Arrest Suspected Internet Fraudster, Cultists In Lagos, Ogun States

The Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command, headquartered in Onikan, Lagos, has made significant arrests in two separate cases involving internet fraud and illegal arms dealing. Under the directive of Assistant Inspector General of Police Olatoye A. Durosinmi, officers apprehended individuals connected to high-profile crimes.

A prime suspect, Joseph Olawuyi, was arrested for defrauding a US-based car dealer, Adesuwa Remee Ogizie, out of a Mercedes Benz GLE 350 valued at ₦30 million. Ogizie, who operates as a licensed car dealer, reported that Olawuyi contacted her in 2016 to purchase the luxury vehicle. He misled her by claiming that his brother, Jude Hanslem, would complete the payment on his behalf.

The investigation revealed that the funds transferred to Ogizie were proceeds from fraudulent activities. Upon receiving the vehicle in Nigeria, Olawuyi confessed to having sold the car and used the proceeds for personal gain. The Zonal Anti-Kidnapping Unit (ZAKU), led by SP Abass Gadzama, promptly acted on the complaint, resulting in Olawuyi’s capture.

Olawuyi admitted his involvement in internet fraud during interrogation, and further details are being uncovered as the investigation continues. Authorities assured that Olawuyi will face prosecution once the inquiry is concluded.

In a related development, the police also apprehended two men involved in cult activities and arms smuggling. Acting on intelligence reports, detectives from the Zonal Strike Force arrested Shokoti Roborth in Atan, Ogun State. Roborth, identified as a cross-border gunrunner, was found in possession of two newly manufactured locally-made pistols. A subsequent search of his residence yielded an additional two similar firearms.

Roborth confessed to being a member of the “Eiye Confraternity,” a notorious cult group. He admitted to smuggling and selling firearms from Benin Republic to other cult members in Nigeria. His arrest led to the capture of another suspect, Ojelade Yusuf, who was found with a pump-action shotgun. Yusuf also claimed affiliation with the “Eiye Confraternity” and disclosed that he had purchased the weapon from an associate who is currently at large.

SP Ayuba T. Umma, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that both suspects are undergoing further questioning. The police have pledged to continue their investigation and ensure that all involved parties are brought to justice.

These arrests underscore the ongoing efforts of the Nigeria Police Force to tackle internet fraud and illegal arms trafficking, which pose significant threats to public safety. The force remains committed to upholding the law and maintaining order across the region.
