Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber In Nnewi, Recover Stolen Motorcycle

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a suspected member of a notorious armed robbery syndicate terrorizing residents of Nnewichi in Nnewi North Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Nnaji Chukwuka, a 20-year-old male, was apprehended on May 29, 2025, by officers attached to the Otolo-Nnewi Police Station. The police recovered a machete and a Honda Cub 120 motorcycle believed to have been snatched during one of the gang’s operations.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest is the result of sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance efforts following a string of complaints from residents about the activities of the robbery gang.

“The suspect has made useful statements that are aiding ongoing investigations, with efforts underway to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate,” Ikenga said.

Police authorities confirmed that the recovered motorcycle has been returned to its rightful owner, who has been identified.

The Anambra State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Further developments on the investigation will be communicated in due course, the police assured.
