The Lagos State Police Command have arrested a total number of 32 suspects involved in kidnapping, killing, armed robbery, defilement and cultism and have recovered 30 live arms and ammunition in Lagos State.
While parading the suspects at the command on Thursday, the command said as part of it effort to crack crime and criminality within the last one month, it also recovered two cars, 16 inverter batteries, six modules, cables, three ATM cards, four sim cards and four phones from the suspects.
Speaking during the press briefing at the Police Command headquarters in Ikeja, The command Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspects were arrested following an intelligent and detail information of their activities.
“Some of the suspects were ambushed during an operation and some have been wanted following previous robbery in 2021,” he said.
Hundeyin added that one of the suspects, Obiora Igboagu was arrested for killing one Pedrom Akinbiyi with a stone in March and would be charged to court soon.
Meanwhile, Mr. Benjamin Nkemakolam Ogudoro, has been arrested after allegedly setting his Scottish-based wife and her only brother ablaze shortly after she returned to Lagos.
Benjamin was said to have set them ablazed on April 1 at about 3:30 a.m. after a quarrel at his Lagos residents at House 5, Zone 7, Oteyi Garden Estate Abule-Ado, Lagos.
Speaking during interrogation, Benjamin told the press that the incident was an act accident as he could not recall what caused the fire.
“She didn’t tell me she was returning to Nigeria that very day. She just called suddenly to say she’s around I was even thinking she wanted to surprise me. So, when she came, I went outside to drink some bottles and when I returned, i discovered that the room where she was with her brother was bringing out fire before I knew it collapsed and was also rushed to the hospital. That was all I can remember,” he said.
One Benedict Ahieze was also arrested for smashing the head of his one month old baby on the floor after a brief quarrel with his wife.
Benedict told the press that it was not intentional as he slipped off the floor at his Idimu residence during a conversation with his wife.
Other suspects arrested by the Command are Uchenna Daniels who kidnapped a 22 years old Miss Hannatu Kabri in Abuja and in hiding in Lagos, Tijani Abubakar for stabbing Nasiru Zari in Age, Odili Ifeanyi for allegedly killing Okoh Awoh with a wheel Spanner and other suspects.
Similarly, part of the suspected were armed robbers in Ikorodu area. While confessing to the crime, they said they said they constantly work with local vigilantes and security operations for information before raiding their victims.
One of the suspects, Hakeem Sakariyat, said: “we usually negotiate with vigilantes or any security persons. If we want to work in a street, we will approach them and ask them how much they want to collect, once we agreed they will ask us to tie them down with rope after our operations to avoid suspicion”
A cleaner, Mr. Sosoguto Theodore, to a Japanese based in Nigeria, was also arrested for conspiracy after robbing his Japanese boss about N2.7 million at gun point in Ikoyi.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi has however assured Lagosians that security of live and Property in the state will continue to be at the top of his policing vision for Lagos State.
