Police Apprehend Dispatch Rider For Car Theft, Recover Stolen Vehicle

In a swift operation, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested a twenty-three-year-old dispatch rider, Ternia Samuel, for the theft of a Toyota Camry, 2010 model. The suspect was apprehended at the RRS headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, following a daring theft incident.

The incident occurred on Sunday, March 10, 2024, around 10:00 PM when RRS operatives patrolling Dopemu Bridge intercepted Samuel’s unregistered motorcycle with a passenger onboard. A concerned passerby, claiming to be Samuel’s brother, witnessed the interception and intervened to plead for the release of the motorcycle, which belonged to Samuel. However, during the interaction, Samuel brazenly snatched the passerby‚Äôs car key, leaped into his Toyota Camry, and fled the scene.

Despite a pursuit by RRS operatives, Samuel managed to evade capture momentarily. However, thanks to the swift response of the Shasha Police Division, the stolen vehicle was recovered, and Samuel was apprehended shortly after the incident.

Upon interrogation, the passerby confessed to only trying to assist Samuel by falsely claiming to be his brother, disassociating himself from any involvement in the theft.

Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, has directed the immediate arraignment of the suspect, underscoring the zero-tolerance stance of the Lagos State Police Command against criminal activities.

In a statement, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, affirmed the commitment of the police force to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. The arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the stolen vehicle serve as a testament to the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts in combating crime and maintaining public order.
