Police AIG Basil O. Idegwu Assumes Duty at Zone 14 Headquarters, Katsina


The Nigeria Police Force has announced the assumption of duty by Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Basil O. Idegwu, Ph.D., as the new head of Zone 14 Headquarters in Katsina. This zone encompasses Kaduna and Katsina States, marking a significant transition for law enforcement in the region.

AIG Basil O. Idegwu, hailing from Ute/Erumu Town in Ika North East LGA of Delta State, officially began his tenure on Monday, June 24, 2024. He brings a wealth of experience and a distinguished career within the Nigeria Police Force, having joined as a Cadet ASP in May 1992. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and both Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Ibadan.

Throughout his tenure, AIG Idegwu has served in various critical roles across the country, including Commissioner of Police for Election Planning, monitoring, and Evaluation; Deputy Commissioner of Police for Federal Operations at Force Headquarters, Abuja; and Commander of the National Inland Waterways in Lagos State, among others.

Noteworthy among his accomplishments are his roles in high-profile national and international assignments, including coordination during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, membership in the NYSC National Governing Board from 2021 to 2023, and leadership in the Presidential Intervention on Covid-19. His dedication and strategic leadership have earned him numerous accolades and awards for meritorious service.

“AIG Idegwu’s appointment underscores his exceptional track record and competence in police operations,” stated CSP Gambo Isah, ANIPR, Police Public Relations Officer for Zone 14 Headquarters, Katsina. “His leadership is expected to enhance security coordination in Kaduna and Katsina States, given his extensive background in handling complex security challenges.”

The AIG, known for his commitment to public service and community engagement, is also recognized for his contributions to security committees and election monitoring teams. He is married with children and enjoys hobbies such as squash, reading, and swimming.
