Polaris Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment through its International Women’s Day (IWD) Seminar, themed “Accelerating Action: Breaking Barriers & Creating Equal Opportunities.”
The event brought together thought leaders, professionals, and advocates to discuss the urgent need for concrete actions in fostering gender equality and dismantling systemic barriers.
Speaking at the seminar, Polaris Bank’s Executive Director, Mrs. Abimbola Ozomah, conveyed greetings from the Managing Director/CEO and the bank’s leadership, emphasizing that IWD is both a celebration and a call to action.
“This year’s theme urges us to take swift and decisive steps toward achieving gender equality by breaking down biases that hinder women’s progress,” she stated. “At Polaris Bank, we believe that real progress happens when organizations go beyond conversation and actively implement policies that support women’s growth.”
The seminar featured industry experts sharing strategies for advancing leadership opportunities and financial inclusion for women.
Polaris Bank’s Non-Executive Director, Ayaba M. Ayo-Joseph, encouraged women to support each other beyond IWD celebrations. She outlined eight key ways to accelerate women’s empowerment, including economic independence, stepping into leadership roles, advocating for gender-friendly workspaces, mentorship, self-care, collaboration, creating safe spaces, and leveraging technology for growth.
“The change we wish to see starts with us. Let’s keep pushing boundaries and supporting each other,” she urged.
Similarly, Mrs. Subulade Giwa-Amu, also a Non-Executive Director, highlighted character, resilience, and integrity as essential for success. She emphasized the need for financial independence, personal investment, and collaboration over competition.
“There is room for everyone at the top. Women must uplift each other rather than compete unnecessarily,” she advised.
Tolulope Makinwa-Adeniyi, Executive Director of Muazu Africa, stressed the power of relationships and personal development.
“Express admiration, nurture connections, and build a network that will open doors for you,” she stated. She also challenged women to embrace discomfort for growth and break away from the ‘Cinderella Complex’, encouraging them to take charge of their own destinies.
Ndidi Ukaonu, MD/CEO of Parthian Partners, called for action over conversation.
“It’s time to move beyond discussions about gender equality and start implementing real change,” she asserted. She urged women to define their impact and legacy, emphasizing confidence and taking initiative.
“Stop waiting for permission to be great—own your power and walk in it,” she concluded, calling on participants to “Accelerate action, break barriers, and create opportunities. The world is waiting for you to step up.”
Polaris Bank remains dedicated to driving change and ensuring women are empowered to lead, reinforcing its commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities across all sectors.
