PLATEAU STATE TRAGEDY: IGP Denounces Attacks, Initiates Probe, Deployment

In the aftermath of the devastating assaults on several villages within Plateau State, claiming numerous lives in the Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has vehemently condemned these horrific acts as both barbaric and inhumane.

Responding swiftly to this critical situation, the IGP has taken decisive action by ordering an immediate deployment of additional manpower and resources to Plateau State. This proactive step is aimed at bolstering the local Police authority and other security units to effectively manage the crisis and ensure the safety of residents in the affected LGAs and the entire State.

Recognizing the imperative for a comprehensive investigation, the IGP has directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police responsible for the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and the equivalent in the Department of Force Intelligence to assemble a high-powered investigative team. This team’s mandate is to meticulously uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Employing both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies, the Police and allied security agencies are engaging in concerted efforts to address the recurring crisis in the State. The IGP urges all factions, residents, and the entire state populace to embrace peace, renounce violence, and prevent further senseless loss of innocent lives.

The IGP extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and loved ones of the deceased, victims of these unfortunate and avoidable incidents, as well as to the Government and people of Plateau State. He assures the public that those responsible for these appalling acts will face the full extent of the law and shall find no respite until justice is served.

Reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding citizens’ lives and property, every possible measure will be taken to restore peace and security in the affected regions.
