Former Governor and Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, made generous donations to two educational institutions in Awka yesterday, underscoring his commitment to advancing education and healthcare in Nigeria.
Obi’s first stop was St. John of God Secondary School, where he joined the school’s community to celebrate its 60th anniversary. During his visit, Obi presented a cheque of 15 million Naira to the school, a donation made on behalf of Mrs. Bridget Egodi Egbujiobi (formerly Bridget Egodi Akaigwe, Class of 1979), an alumna of the school. Obi recounted how Mrs. Egbujiobi, during a recent meeting in the United States, expressed her pride in her alma mater and was inspired to support the school in commemoration of its anniversary.
Addressing the students, Obi emphasized the importance of education and skills acquisition, encouraging them to use these as a foundation for future success. “Education and skills are the bedrock of a progressive society,” he remarked, “and I encourage each of you to strive towards excellence.”
Following his visit to St. John of God Secondary School, Obi proceeded to the newly established Regina Caeli School of Nursing, Awka, where he donated an additional 10 million Naira to support the institution’s growth. His contributions reflect his dedication to supporting critical areas such as education and healthcare, essential for national development.
“Supporting education, healthcare, and alleviating poverty remains at the core of my mission,” Obi stated. “A new Nigeria is POssible!”
This substantial support for the schools in Awka showcases Obi’s continued involvement in promoting sustainable development across key sectors.
