Former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Saturday, December 9, reaffirmed his commitment to education by donating ₦50 million to Dominican University, Ibadan, during its convocation ceremony.

The event, held at the university’s Samonda campus, also marked nearly a decade of Obi’s service as Pro-Chancellor since the institution’s inception. In his address, Obi highlighted the transformative power of education and the resilience of the human spirit in overcoming adversity.

Sharing an inspiring anecdote, Obi recounted the journey of Mr. Johnathan Luke Wood, President of the University of California, Sacramento. Wood, who overcame a tumultuous childhood marked by poverty, family imprisonment, and school suspensions, rose to become the youngest president of an American university. “His story serves as a powerful reminder of the boundless heights we can attain through hard work, resilience, and determination,” Obi stated, urging graduating students to embody these values.

Obi emphasized the importance of transitioning Nigeria from a culture of consumption to one of production. He encouraged the students to leverage the innovative knowledge and values instilled in them at Dominican University to contribute meaningfully to society.
