Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated ₦30 million to Paul University, Awka, a private institution owned by the Anglican Communion. The gesture, which marks his third visit to the university, underscores his commitment to education as a driver of national development and youth empowerment.
Sharing the news on his official social media handle, Obi highlighted his dedication to supporting the institution’s growth. “Guided by my unwavering belief in education as a critical contributor to national development and its transformative power, I had the pleasure of visiting Paul University, Awka, where I presented a cheque of ₦30 million to support the institution’s continued growth and development,” he wrote.
Obi revealed that he had previously donated ₦10 million during each of his earlier visits, bringing his total contribution to ₦50 million. He also assured the institution of his continued support, particularly for its new School of Nursing Sciences.
During the visit, Obi toured ongoing projects at the university, expressing admiration for the progress made, especially with the introduction of the Nursing Programme. He commended the university’s dedication to equipping students with skills and opportunities for productive engagement.
“Supporting education remains a priority for me. By investing in education, we unlock the immense potential of our people to become productive members of society and pave the way for sustainable and inclusive progress,” Obi remarked.
He concluded his statement with optimism for the future, emphasizing, “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
This gesture is in line with Obi’s long-standing advocacy for education and youth empowerment as cornerstones of national development.
