Peter Obi Advocates For Girl-Child Empowerment, Donates ₦10 Million To Kaduna Institutions

Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has reiterated the importance of empowering the girl-child and investing in education and healthcare as critical steps toward national development. Obi made this known following his participation in the Kaduna Girl-Child Conference/Award 2024, organized by the Creative Think Tank Group in collaboration with the Bounty Food Bank.

Although delayed by an earlier engagement in Yola, Adamawa State, Obi commended the passion and dedication displayed by advocates at the conference, emphasizing the girl-child’s indispensable role in Nigeria’s future. “Empowering her through education, healthcare, and equal opportunities is not only a moral obligation but a strategic imperative and an investment in national progress,” he stated.

Obi stressed the importance of dismantling barriers and creating a safe, inclusive environment to unlock the potential of the girl-child, thereby laying the foundation for sustainable development and equity.

During his visit to Kaduna, Obi toured the Womanhood College of Health Sciences and Technology, an institution focused on training women in healthcare. He lauded the proprietor and staff for their dedication to producing future leaders in the health sector and donated ₦5 million to support the institution’s work, pledging further assistance.

He also revisited his commitment to Saint Gerard’s Nursing School, where he had previously donated ₦10 million earlier this year. While heavy traffic prevented his physical visit, Obi contacted the school’s management to apologize and provided an additional ₦5 million to bolster their efforts.

“These initiatives underscore the urgent need to prioritize education and healthcare if we are to catch up with other nations. Supporting these sectors is not just an investment in individual lives but a step toward building a stronger and better Nigeria,” he remarked.

Concluding his engagements, Obi reaffirmed his vision of a “new Nigeria” built on equity, education, and health, stating, “A new Nigeria is now very POssible!”
