PENGASSAN Mourns Four Members Killed In Rivers State Helicopter Crash

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) is mourning the loss of four of its members who tragically died in a helicopter crash that occurred on Thursday, October 24, 2024, in Rivers State. The incident, which has sent shockwaves throughout the oil and gas industry, claimed the lives of esteemed professionals whose dedication to their work and to PENGASSAN will be deeply missed.

In a press release signed by PENGASSAN’s President, Comrade Engr. Festus Osifo, the association expressed its deep sorrow over the untimely deaths and extended its heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. “The deceased members were valued members of the PENGASSAN family and dedicated professionals in the oil and gas industry,” the statement read. “Their contributions to the sector and to our association will be sorely missed.”

PENGASSAN has pledged to provide every possible form of support to the bereaved families during this difficult time. Comrade Osifo assured the victims’ loved ones that the association stands in solidarity with them and will help ease the burden they face in the wake of this tragedy.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. PENGASSAN confirmed that it is working closely with the relevant authorities to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal accident. The association is also calling for a thorough and transparent investigation, emphasizing the need for urgent measures to be put in place to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future.

In honor of the fallen members, PENGASSAN has called on all its branches across the country to observe a moment of silence and reflection. “Their dedication and service to the oil and gas industry will never be forgotten,” the association said in its statement, urging all members to remember the valuable contributions made by their lost comrades.

The tragedy has not only cast a shadow over the oil and gas sector but has also prompted calls for stricter safety measures within the industry, particularly regarding transportation. Helicopters are a common mode of travel for oil workers in Nigeria, especially those stationed in remote areas. This incident underscores the importance of ensuring that all safety protocols are thoroughly enforced.

As investigations continue, PENGASSAN has committed to keeping the public informed with updates on the situation. For now, the association, along with the entire oil and gas community, mourns the loss of four dedicated professionals whose lives were cut short in the line of duty.
