The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, on Tuesday officially launched the NIMASA Maritime Labour E-Platform, describing it as a bold leap toward a smarter, more transparent, and efficient maritime sector in Nigeria.
Speaking at the launch event, the Minister emphasized the significance of the platform in transforming maritime labour administration and improving digital governance within the sector.
“This is more than just a portal; it is a bold step toward digital governance, improved service delivery, and industry-wide innovation,” Oyetola declared. “The platform offers real-time data access, enhances regulatory compliance, and creates a centralized system for labour administration.”
The Minister commended the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for initiating what he termed a “forward-looking solution” that aligns with the Ministry’s broader vision of enhancing ease of doing business, promoting global competitiveness, and accelerating human capital development within Nigeria’s growing blue economy.
He urged all stakeholders in the maritime labour space—including shipowners, manning agents, seafarers, unions, and regulatory bodies—to fully adopt the platform and take advantage of its wide-ranging capabilities.
“With this,” he concluded, “I hereby declare the NIMASA Maritime Labour E-Platform officially launched.”
The new platform is expected to streamline key processes such as seafarer documentation, employer registration, maritime labour certificate issuance, and regulatory reporting—helping to bridge long-standing administrative gaps while promoting transparency and accountability in maritime labour management.
NIMASA’s Director General and other dignitaries from the maritime industry, labour unions, and private stakeholders were present at the event, signaling broad support for the digital initiative.
